Timberland Jackets

The Timberland name immediately brings the image of a sturdy, reliable, six-inch waterproof boot in newbuck leather to mind – these boots, with their rubber lug sole and padded contrast collar are a truly modern fashion icon. Timberland as a company has enjoyed nearly forty years of increasing popularity off the back of this classic boot.

The Timberland company has its roots in Boston, where boot making apprentice Nathan Swartz began his career as a stitcher in 1918 – cutting leather, stitching seams, attaching soles and honing his skills as a craftsman of fine leather footwear. By the early 1950s, Swartz had bought half of The Abington Shoe Company, and three short years later, he bought the remaining shares to establish what remains a family business today. The Timberland name was coined in 1973, as a brand name for the first waterproof leather boot made by the firm. In the late 1970s, the company itself was rebranded Timberland, and soon after began expanding into other areas of the international lifestyle fashion market.
