The Levi Strauss company opened its first shop in San Francisco in the 1850s. Originally, the business sold dry goods that were shipped from New York to California via Panama. By 1873, Strauss was working with a tailor called Jacob Davis to develop durable pants that would stand up to the abuse and conditions that workers in the late 19th century endured. They patented ‘waist overalls’, made from denim and reinforced with metal rivets at points where the pants were stressed. By 1890, the infamous ‘501’ was as an identifying number for the pants.
Levi Strauss & Co has since used denim to craft just about any type of clothing one might have a use for. Though the company also produces a wide range of casual workwear, it’s denim that Levi’s are most widely known for. And there’s little in the Levi wardrobe that’s more iconic than the legendary Levi’s jacket.
Levi’s jackets come in a variety of styles and sizes for the whole family. The majority of Levi’s jackets are slightly different takes on the original Levi jacket style – typically, a short jacket, fitted just below the waist with button or snap adjustments and fastenings and simple pockets. Levi make jackets for men, women and children – with a number of the Levi jacket styles being truly unisex. Like most fashionable brands, Levi’s jackets change with the seasons, each offering a new collection of weather-specific, trend-setting styles to suit a variety of tastes.
For ladies, Levi presently offer a good variety of jackets, including: the military-style Revolution jacket in olive; the Levi’s Basic Bomber jacket in leather; the Waist Shaped denim jacket with detailed stitching and authentic wear effects; the iconic Levi 1960s Trucker jacket, re-cut for a slim feminine fit. Levi Strauss also make a down-lined bomber jacket and vest, as well as a traditional Pea Coat, and a selection of Parkas in denim, leather and canvas for women.
The original Levi’s products were designed for hard-working men. Today’s collection of Levi Strauss & Co jackets for men reflects this heritage, offering men a solid selection of fashionable coats and jackets that live up to the Levi name. These include a traditional slim-fit Trucker jacket, the men’s Torso-shaped jacket, a leather jacket, the classic Levi’s 1967 Type III jacket and a selection of seasonally-weighted puffa, sherpa, and parka-style coats and jackets, as well as down-filled vests for men on the move.
Levi’s have produced pint-sized clothing off and on for years. Today’s Levi kids can find a good assortment of coats and jackets designed to tolerate the wear and tear active boys and girls can dish out. The Levi kids collection includes: a cut-down version of the original, Levi’s Red Tab jacket; a zip-up hooded cardigan; and a kid-sized version of the legendary Levi’s Trucker jacket. The current Levi’s Kids range is available in sizes to suit children from 0 to 14 years.
Fashionable men, women and children can find Levi jackets in a plethora of high street shops as well as from a good variety of online retailers.
